Ning isn’t free any more, and now a lot of Ning’s users want to migrate to new platforms.
Maybe you are a little confused in the middle of this situation, ‘what should I have done?’, ‘Should I knew this was going to happen?’
Let’s move ahead! Let’s focus on what really matters now: What should you do? Ok, If you’ve ever been to condiminds.com you know what I am about to say… Move to ELGG !
But that piece of advice I’m giving isn’t just ‘cause we develop Elgg… I do believe that it is an outstanding platform you should really try.
You probably know Elgg core is an open source resource you can adapt to what you really need. You should also know that by installing an Elgg on your server you are the owner of not only the development and customization but every content you or your users generate inside your network.
It’s a fact that for private organizations, as companies or schools, it’s quite a guaranty knowing that their information will be kipped safe on their own servers. And that they can avoid all trivial content they do not want to be uploaded to their networks (like personal photos or videos).
Last, but not least, customization is a key factor. You can decide on every aspect of your social network: registration, features, look and feel and integration with other networks (i.e. twitter). Accesses customization on every content is possible too, not only by the admin, also by each user with options that are not hidden but shown when you upload any new information or content.
Take a look at this comparison, you will find a lot of answers to your questions, if you still have any: Comparison of Twitter, Facebook, Ning and Elgg
As you can see that sort of possibilities describe Elgg’s usability: easy, fast and simple… What do you need?
Ok then, remember: Elgg is the new black!
