An Elgg site has been preselected among 200 projects, Congratulations!

We are proud to announce that AlianzaArboles.org (ex ClickArboles.org), a project owned by We-me.org, developed by Condiminds and powered by Elgg, is at the final step of the competition ‘Compromiso 2.0, Tu idea Web innovadora para la transformación social.’ (‘Engagement 2.0, your innovative Web idea for social transformation’). This contest is an important initiative from two Argentine vigorous organizations: La Plata Valley and Idealistas.org, which work in getting the best of Web 2.0 and entrepreneurs. Both organizations have in this opportunity Microsoft support, very helpful when comes to innovative ideas.

The first step of the contest was to gather NGOs with entrepreneurs and help them to develop strategies on how to use new technologies in order to make a difference for those who really need it. More than 200 entrepreneurs and NGOs took part of this initiative and an amazing synergy and great ideas appeared!

AlianzaArboles.org (ex ClickArboles.org) was one of the 10 preselected ideas! But we will have to wait until October to know if this social networking site powered by Elgg wins this competition. Nevertheless getting selected between 200 ideas is a great impulse to continue struggling against deforestation, greetings to our friends!



Problem for AlianzaArboles.org to solve:
ClickArboles confronts the lack of trees caused for native forests’ deforestation. Only in Argentina native forests’ deforestation rices to the amount of 30 hectares (40 soccer fields) each hour. Our country has lost 70% of it’s forest patrimony. Trees are necessary because their capability to absorb CO2, an important way to mitigate climate change effects and conserve biodiversity. To plant a tree for every available space we found will be AlianzaArboles.org (ex ClickArboles.org) mission.

Solution
AlianzaArboles.org presents an innovative solution that consist on dividing tasks with the citizenship, that’s how anybody can participate with a small collaboration, from donating seeds to actually becoming a gardener and planting trees.
The accomplishment of this goal will take part both in offline and online actions with the incorporation of a 2.0 Social Networking site specially developed to optimized results and minimizing costs of the different kind of possible participation.
To AlianzaArboles.org the collaboratively built heritage will be respected and cared much more, which is essential for long-term efforts to perpetuate.

This is another successful example of the best open source social networking platform, elgg.
